ASME Y14.5-2018 Dimensioning and Tolerancing. This Standard establishes symbols, rules, definitions, requirements, defaults, and recommended practices for stating and interpreting dimensioning, tolerancing, and related requirements for use on engineering drawings, models defined in digital data files, and related documents. The GD&T drafting standard is not meant to be a standard for inspection, but rather a standard for describing the design of a part. However, GD&T does give. Taylor Principle is defined by rule #1 in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing within ASME Y14.5M - 1994. It is also known as Envelope Principle. This Principle (Rule#1) is based on the premise that a shaft must be able to fit inside a hole which is as deep as the shaft length.

Practices unique to architectural and civil engineering and welding symbology are not included in this Standard.
